YAG Laser Capsulotomy
Approximately one in three patients will develop opacification of the membrane behind the intraocular lens (IOL) following cataract surgery. Vision may be blurred, hazy or diminished by glare. This condition, known as posterior capsule fibrosis, is not preventable, but its treatment nearly always results
in improved vision.
The YAG laser capsulotomy is a minor outpatient procedure in which a
laser
is used to dissolve the membrane behind the IOL implant.
The eye
is dilated before the procedure, which takes just a few minutes and is painless. Anti-
inflammatory eye drops are prescribed following the operation and it requires
no anesthesia.
