Cataracts, sooner or later most of us have them.

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in one or both eyes. The lens is located
just behind the iris, or colored part of your eye. Like the lens of a camera,
your lens picks up images and colors, then it focuses them on the retina, at
the back of your eye, which transmits those images to your brain.

When the human lens becomes clouded because of aging, disease or injury, sharp images appear blurred. Seeing things at night is more difficult. A cataract may be the reason why eyeglasses and contact lenses no longer seem to help in reading or viewing distant objects.

A cataract is not a film over the eye and cannot be made to go away. It must be surgically removed and replaced with a new, clear lens. Millions of people have this remarkably successful surgical procedure each year as outpatients.
